The New Beijing #6 | China World Trade Center | SOM

The latest addition to the China World Trade Center is the Phase III tower by renowned American firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill:

Completed in 2009, the 330m high / 74 level tower is currently the tallest building in Beijing’s CBD and houses commercial offices and the China World Summit Wing Hotel. As with many towers of this size, the appearance changes from various times of the day and year depending on weather and light conditions. These dramatic changes are perhaps more visible on another super-tall tower also by SOM in Shanghai – Jin Mao Tower:

For many years Jin Mao stood alone in the Pudong area of Shanghai and only recently, following the completion of the nearby Shanghai World Financial Center designed by American firm Kohn Pederson Fox, did the project have any vertical context:

This may also be the case for the China World Tower when the nearby 500m high CITIC development, designed by British architect Sir Terry Farrell (TFP Farrells) is completed:
