studio505 | Carbon Neutral Pixels

Part of the new wave of foreign Architects operating in China is studio505 from Melbourne. Dylan Brady and Dirk Zimmermann first collaborated in the late 90′s on Melbourne’s landmark civic project,  Federation Square – Zimmermann was responsible for the complex structural solutions with ATELIER ONE and Brady the sophisticated exterior facade with LAB ARCHITECTS.

Following the Federation Square project they founded studio505 and today have a thriving design based office of 30 people, operating out of Melbourne, on projects across Australia, South East Asia and China. Completed in 2010, studio505 project PIXEL is Australia’s first carbon neutral building. One of the first components of the Grollo redevelopment of the Carlton United Brewery site on Swanston Street in downtown Melbourne, the building is both LEED and BREAM rated. Also achieving a perfect score of 100 in Australia’s Green Building Council rating system, the project has been widely acclaimed as the greenest building in Australia – images below.

Following concept design by French Architect Paul Andreu and base building work by Shanghai architect ECADI, studio505 was responsible for the creative design and documentation of the external facade / screen systems for the iconic Suzhou Science and Cultural Center in in Suzhou, Jiangsu province – images below.
